Après un premier opus en demi-teinte et quelques appréhensions, j’étais curieuse savoir ce que le duo Andy Gallo & Anyta Sunday allait me réserver dans cette suite. Et je suis heureuse de vous confirmer que ce second opus est des plus délicieux…

Avant d’aller plus loin, je tiens à préciser que bien qu’il s’agisse d’une suite, cette histoire peut être lue indépendamment de l’autre. Cependant pour mieux apprécier (et faire une petite comparaison), je vous conseille quand même de découvrir l’histoire de Jack & Ed.

Mais ici il s’agit d’un tout autre duo, Isaiah & Darren. Un duo explosif qui a bien faillit me rendre complètement dingue et pourtant chacun d’entre eux a su me séduire chacun à leur manière… Deux forts tempéraments venant de deux mondes diamétralement opposés. Et pourtant ils ont le même objectif : la prestigieuse bourse Gage. Et ils sont prêts à tout pour l’avoir…

Ce qu’il m’a plu chez Isaiah c’est sa détermination à mener à bien son objectif. Cependant, son côté à juger un peu trop vite m’a légèrement agacé. Mais fort heureusement, il a su se faire pardonner comme il se doit.

Passons maintenant à Darren, mon chouchou. Alors lui, il m’a touchée en plein cœur. Il a tout de l’image du pauvre gosse de riche. Mais très vite vous vous rendrez compte qu’en réalité il est très différent. Une belle âme au grand cœur qui a du mal à trouver sa place et qu’il fait tout pour regagner l’approbation de son père…

Dire que ces deux-là se détestent, est un pur euphémisme. Mais aucun d’eux n’avaient prévu qu’en passant de plus en plus de temps ensemble d’être à ce point perturbés par la présence de l’autre…

En bref… Un second opus que j’ai littéralement dévoré. Une fois ma lecture commencée, il m’a été impossible de m’arrêter. Plus je tournais les pages, plus j’en devenais accro. Que cela soit au niveau de l’intrigue en elle-même ou de nos deux protagonistes… C’est simple, entre joutes verbales, défis, fous rires, tension palpable, sensualité et émotions fortes, je ne me suis pas ennuyée un seul instant… « Better have heart » est une pétillante et rafraîchissante romance slow-burn MM qui fera un bien fou à votre moral, qui vous fera vibrer à bien des niveaux et qui est savourée sans modération… Quand à moi, je n’ai qu’une hâte découvrir le prochain opus…

It took an hour before Darren could break free and sling himself into the shower.
He scrubbed himself head to toe—twice—in record time, and dressed without preamble. He packed a bag, freed Isaiah from some mundane conversation, and snuck out of the house.
Darren linked their fingers and tugged Isaiah close. Their shoulders bumped, and Isaiah squeezed his hand gently. “You’re okay walking like this?”
Darren slowed his step. “I’m sorry, Isaiah. I just assumed you’d be okay with it.”
He tried to get his hand free, but Isaiah gripped it tighter. “It’s more than okay, it’s awesome. I was just surprised, I guess.”
“My fraternity brothers know, my teammates know, and my family knows. Who else matters enough for me to hide it? Besides—” Darren pulled their hands up and kissed the back of Isaiah’s. “—I want people to see how lucky I am that I’m with you.”
“No one on campus is going to think you’re the lucky one.”
“I do.” Darren bumped their shoulders. “And I am.”
Isaiah pulled them to a stop. A breeze pushed strands of hair into Isaiah’s face, and Darren tucked them back behind his ear. “Are you okay?”
“I really need to kiss you,” Isaiah murmured. “Right now.”
Darren lit up inside with a grin that ballooned into a full-bodied smile as Isaiah slammed their faces together. A laugh bubbled up, and Darren wrapped his arms tight around Isaiah and kissed him back.
Isaiah crushed against him, and his tongue teased Darren’s lips apart. He tasted subtly of sugared lemon—the bars at the party—and Darren nibbled on Isaiah’s bottom lip before diving into his mouth again.
He vaguely noticed his bag was slipping from his shoulder, but he didn’t care. Couldn’t. He leaned into Isaiah’s warm, fresh scent, wanting, wanting—
“Let’s get to my room,” Isaiah whispered against his wet lips.

Andy Gallo prefers mountains over the beach, coffee over tea, and regardless if you shake it or stir it, he isn’t drinking a martini. He remembers his “good old days” as filled with mullets, disco music, too-short shorts, and too-high socks.
